The protagonist, after learning of a guide's gruesome death at a river, investigates and finds the culprit to be carnivorous fish lurking underwater. He kills a fish and prepares to eat it, but the scent of blood attracts others. He ends up sharing his catch with the townspeople, not for charity, but in exchange for water, and even gains a reward. A man with firearms also demands a few bites, trading him chocolate in return.
