Chapter Synopsis
The chapter opens with Faschio, an entertainer from the Black Hawk forces, attempting to recruit Helmlit by threatening his life with a heart-eating bug unless he joins them. Meanwhile, a group accompanying Helmlit finds a safe place to rest, but their peace is short-lived as two of them go for firewood and encounter a character who had been watching them. It turns out to be the person who had tried to recruit Helmlit, and a conversation ensues, revealing both his obsession and Helmlit's confrontational nature.
